Alan is an attorney licensed in both Oregon and Washington. His practice focuses on small business and construction matters of all types.
Alan has worked in the construction industry in various capacities since 1976. He first worked as a laborer for a custom home builder in Tucson, Arizona. He then began working as a sole proprietor in the carpentry business, from framing to finish work and cabinetry. Alan next became a building inspector for the City of Tucson, Arizona, working in that position for almost seven years. After that, Alan spent two years as a building inspector and plans examiner for City of Plymouth, Minnesota.
Alan went to law school at Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, graduating in 1996. He worked at the law firm of Scott Hookland LLP from 1995 until 2007, when he formed Mitchell Law Office, LLC.
Alan speaks and writes frequently on various aspects of construction law, including lien and bond claims, commercial collections, and Construction Contractors Board issues. He has worked closely with hundreds of small businesses, from formation through company ownership changes and dissolutions.
Alan is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Washington State Bar, and the U.S. District Court of Oregon. He is the Editor of the newsletter for the Oregon State Bar's Construction Law Section.
His volunteer work includes serving on the City of Tigard Building Appeals Board and the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar's Construction Law Section, as well as being a hearings officer for the Multnomah County Animal Services agency.
